This was a dream ride. It was super hard, and I can’t believe I made it. I rode almost 800 kilometers in five days, with a lot of help from the guides. The support was just amazing. One of the highlights was motor pacing when we were chasing the front group with Manuel! That was a new experience. The inGamba staff is just a dream team. The more I suffer, the more I like it, that’s just my kind of perfect vacation. But my friends at home think I’m crazy! I’ll definitely be back, and I’ll bring some people with me.

The inGamba Coast Ride

$6,950
Lead Guide:

Eros Poli

We are back for the fall! Join us on this special ride and celebrate the end of the season in style and miles.

Back in the 1990s, a group of friends thought it would be a good idea to ride from San Francisco to Santa Barbara to kick off the cycling season. They were right. Ever since, the Coast Ride has become the unofficial start to the riding calendar for cyclists in the Bay Area, and for years we’ve enjoyed it as an important ritual on the road to springtime.

Now though, we do things a little differently to everyone else. We’ve fine-tuned the route to maximise enjoyment and hit some of our favorite spots along Highway One. It is still a point-to-point journey, so we ride rain or shine, but unlike the public event, this Coast Ride is now totally exclusive to inGamba, meaning it will just be us on the road with the full support of our mechanics and soigneurs. We’ve also picked a later date in the calendar to help with the weather.

MEET THE GUIDES

EROS POLI

THE CHAMPION

The night before Eros Poli took victory atop Mont Ventoux he couldn’t sleep. It was not like he was dreaming of victory or even had the slightest idea the next day’s stage would change his life forever. It was just that it was hot. Unbearably, unsleepably hot in his less-than stellar French hotel. His roommate had taken his mattress off the bed and was sleeping on the small balcony outside their room. And the man who would shortly become known as Monsieur Ventoux was watching football, Italy vs. Brazil in the World Cup final, to be exact. Italy lost. The following morning as Eros dragged his weary, tired legs out of bed and down the stairs, as there was no lift, James Brown came into his head. “I feel good, I knew that I would now,” started to repeat over and over in his head. As it would the rest of the day. He felt good and the rest, as they say, is history.

Paulo Crispim

Paulo began mountain biking at the early age of 16, and soon his love for bicycles, road cycling, and mechanics were there. Almost a decade later, he decided to take the risk and become a bicycle mechanic, but he never stopped participating in granfondos and amateur races. He joined inGamba as a mechanic in 2019 and now he is also one of our guides.

DAY BY DAY BREAKDOWN

1

Headlands

Wednesday – 27km & 420m

We’ll kick things off with a welcome ride that’s perfect for getting to know your Pinarello bike and shaking out any pre-ride jitters. We’ll take you on some fun, quiet roads where you can stretch your legs and soak up the beautiful scenery. It’s the perfect way to get in the zone and prepare for the big days ahead!

2

MILL VALLEY – SANTA CRUZ

Thursday – 143km & 1640m

In terms of opening kilometers, it’s hard to beat a roll across the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s far from the only highlight though as we continue our adventure south. After skirting around San Francisco’s coastline, we will follow the shore for the rest of the day, past Half Moon bay and the edges of the beautiful Big Basin Redwoods State Park on some absolutely stunning stretches of road. There are no huge climbs today, but there are a number of 2-3km ascents averaging around 5%, and as this is our second-longest day of the week they will take a toll so be sure to gauge your efforts.

3

SANTA CRUZ – MONTEREY

Friday – 101km & 769m
A relatively easy route in between the two biggest rides of the week, but there’s still plenty to enjoy as we ride across Monterey Bay. Our man Eros Poli will be sure to keep the group tight today and if we work together it will be a fast and fun ride that should leave you with enough gas for the upcoming queen stage.
4

MONTEREY – SAN SIMEON

Saturday – 148km & 2,178m
The biggest ride of the week takes us past Big Sur, with plenty of stunning ocean views on one side of us and the Santa Lucia Mountains on the other. This is a truly stunning stretch of road with lots of highlights along the way, but with more than 2,200m of elevation gain to contend with, you should stay focused.
5

SAN SIMEON – PASO ROBLES

Sunday – 100km & 1,646m
We’re finally heading inland after five days by the ocean, leaving Highway One behind us at Cayucos and heading for our final stop in Paso Robles. This is a part of the world that we know very well and the hilly Old Creek Road is always a favorite for us. We’ll pass plenty of vineyards in the second half of this route, which should whet the appetite for a celebratory glass or two later in the evening. After such an epic week, we’ll deserve it!
6

DEPARTURE

Monday
This is our final morning together and after a leisurely breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye, or at least arrivederci, until we meet again.
