ABOUT THIS TRIP

Schloss Elmau is an exceptional off-grid paradise. While it may appear to be a classic mountain resort, resembling a grand castle hotel from the outside, it is actually a modern luxury hotel that seamlessly blends old-world Bavarian charm with high-end luxury.

Home to an impressive concert hall and a magnificent spa, the hotel serves as a haven for culture and refinement. Its secluded location in the Wetterstein Mountains makes it the perfect starting point for exploring this incredibly romantic region. Originally constructed between 1914 and 1916 by a philosopher-writer (now owned and operated by his grandson), the Baroque castle boasts over 100 rooms, including a yoga retreat, a top-notch medical wing, and the ‘Badehaus’, a beautifully traditional spa featuring a variety of saunas, steam baths, and an oriental hammam—said to be one of the most glamorous west of Istanbul. While the therapists excel at detoxifying and invigorating treatments, what truly sets Schloss Elmau apart is its remarkable concert hall. Did you know that the G7 summit leaders have chosen this venue twice, in 2015 and 2022?

We are thrilled that the Schloss Elmau team has selected inGamba for this extraordinary trip. Join us and you’ll see that cycling in the Alps, through Bavaria, gives you a feeling reminiscent of The Sound of Music, with snow-capped mountains and crystal-clear lakes creating picturesque scenery. The rides include fantastic climbs and awe-inspiring alpine landscapes.

MANUEL CARDOSO

The Quiet Crusher

Manuel Cardoso is no longer sitting on the front of the pack, pulling everyone along at what some would describe as a “brisk” pace and what others are unable to describe at all, because they’re too busy gasping for breath and holding onto the wheel in front of them for dear life. Manuel is now sitting just slightly off the back of the pack. As I look back, I realize he has that look on his face. The look which struck fear in the hearts of the Pro Peleton for many years. The look which is part grin, part mischievous child and all business. He is about to start some shenanigans. Sure enough, just a few kilometers later and Manuel has picked one lucky contestant out of the pack and they are sitting-in, waiting, like predators, for the perfect moment. For Manuel, just like when he raced pro, this is when the road turns slightly up, a spot in the road where it gets tough for everyone. And he accelerates with his breakaway “partner” in tow. It is something to see. He ramps it up to a speed with which no one can latch onto the back and with such precision you have to question whether or not you actually want to try and close the gap he has created. And you can’t see it, but you just know, he is grinning from ear-to-ear.

1

Test Ride

Sunday | 25km & 431m

Step into Bavaria’s natural wonderland on this scenic loop from Schloss Elmau to Krün, passing by Tennsee and Schmalsee lakes. This route is the perfect way to soak in the beauty of the Alpenwelt Karwendel region and prepare yourself for a week of pure paradise.

2

Ride to Austria and Back

Monday | 70km & 1446m

Today’s route takes us across the border with Austria, heading towards the village of Mösern. A popular attraction in the region is the Peace Bell located above the town of Telfs. This bell, the largest freestanding bell in the Alps, not only produces an impressive sound when rung, but also serves as a thought-provoking symbol of peace. It invites visitors to take a moment to relax and appreciate the beautiful viewpoint it offers. Every day at 5 pm, the bell rings out across the Inn Valley, symbolizing good relations between neighbors and promoting peace in the region.

3

Neuschwanstein Castle

Tuesday | 115km & 1,419m
Few places on Earth resemble storybook illustrations more than Neuschwanstein Castle. With its towers, turrets, frescoes, and throne hall, Neuschwanstein (or Schloss Neuschwanstein, as it is called in German) looks like it was plucked straight from your favorite fairy tale. Our journey to the Neuschwanstein Castle in the border region of Bavarian Swabia and Upper Bavaria offers pastoral landscapes, the sound of cowbells, baroque churches, and deep blue lakes.
4

Cheese at Eng Alm

Wednesday | 50km & 797m
There is only one climb on the schedule: Eng. This is because we will have the chance to witness the production of the award-winning Enger mountain cheese. The cheese is made according to a traditional recipe using a large copper kettle. The alpine meadows, with their variety of herbs, provide the cows with a healthy and natural diet, resulting in excellent milk for this alpine cheese.
5

The 2 lakes

Thursday 88km & 1,303m

Today we explore two of Bavaria’s most stunning lakes: Kochelsee and Walchensee. These beautiful bodies of water were formed due to melting ice age glaciers and are nestled in the southern Alps. Walchensee, one of Germany’s deepest and largest alpine lakes, holds the title for being one of the oldest as well. Its remarkable depth of 190 meters is due to its unique tectonic formation. Since 1924, it has also been a vital water reservoir for the Walchensee power station. Interestingly, the power station is 200 meters lower on the neighboring Kochelsee lake. Known as the “Bavarian Caribbean,” Walchensee is celebrated for its crystal-clear, turquoise-green water.

6

Little Canada Valley

Friday | 92km & 1,306m

Did you know there’s a “Little Canada in the Alps” hidden in Aosta Valley, at the heart of one of the most stunning regions of the Alps? Picture this – nestled between mountains that soar to heights of 3,000 to 3,747 meters, you’ll find a place where you can admire famous peaks like Mont Blanc, Grand Combin, the Matterhorn, Mont Rose, and Grand Paradis.

7

DEPARTURE

Saturday
This is our final morning together and after a leisurely breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye, or at least arrivederci, until we meet again. Transfers to the airport will be arranged by our hard-working crew but if you’re planning on staying a few extra days, let us know if we can help with reservations or a few recommendations.

The latest version of the DOGMA features an advanced fiber with remarkable tensile strength, which enables Pinarello to improve the bike’s lateral stiffness performance. With this enhancement, the New DOGMA F is engineered to tackle any road challenges, establishing itself as a reliable option for all kinds of rides.

In addition, it comes equipped with the new SRAM RED AXS, the lightest electronic groupset to date.
