Lead Guide:

Sérgio Paulinho

This trip takes you into the beating heart of the Dolomites, where we’ll take on some of the most revered climbs in the world, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of a mountain range that has forged legends and shaped our sport.

And because you’re with inGamba, you’ll experience all of this with the kind of equipment and support that normally only professionals can enjoy, while enjoying some luxurious lodgings at two unique hotels: The Hotel My Arbor in Bressanone, and Hotel La Perla in Corvara. Both of these destinations epitomize the comfort, warmth, and style that has made this part of Italy so famous, while also offering unrivaled access to Italy’s great mountains.

You can look forward to roads steeped in history and some of the sport’s most legendary climbs, from the Passo Pordoi, where Fausto Coppi and Gino Bartali fought one of their most famous battles, to the Passo delle Erbe, where a young Marco Pantani first grabbed global attention with a stunning solo victory during the 1994 Giro d’Italia.

MEET THE GUIDES

Sergio

Sérgio Paulinho

The World Tour veteran

After an impressive pro career that started back in 2003, Sérgio Paulinho joined the inGamba team at the start of 2022 after his retirement. But we’ve known him for a long time, as not only did he race against our founder João Correia, but he was also a teammate of our star guide Manuel Cardoso back in the day. A two-time national champion in Portugal, Sérgio has also won stages at the Tour de France and Vuelta a España, and in 2004, he won a silver medal in the road race at the Athens Olympics. So it’s fair to say the man has pedigree! It isn’t the racing victories that impress us most about Sérgio though, it’s his personality, his friendly nature on and off the bike, and the fact that he’s always ready with a smile. That said, if you find yourself running out of gas on a big climb, it certainly helps to have someone like him beside you!

Rui Vinhas

Rui Vinhas

Born in the North of Portugal, Rui has been riding his bike since he was 10. In 2011, he became a professional cyclist and just five years later he won the Tour of Portugal. The following year, in 2017, he was the runner-up in the Portuguese Cycling Championship. His talent and incredible bike skills will be by your side during our trips.

DAY BY DAY BREAKDOWN

1

BRESSANONE

Sunday | 25km & 610m

Bëgnodüs to Alta Badia! There is no such thing as a flat road in this special part of the world, but our first day is a relatively easy one, with a big descent, a flat ride and a friendly climb so we test those legs – and to make sure that your bike is working perfectly. If it isn’t quite right, or you’d like to fine-tune something, now is the time to speak to your mechanic.

2

SAN PIETRO - PASSO DELLE ERBE

Monday | 72.9km & 2,405m

The Passo delle Erbe is incredibly scenic and offers just the right mix of challenge and fun. It’s also a great climb for the racing cognoscenti, because this is where the legendary Marco Pantani won his first Giro d’Italia stage, obliterating the opposition with a dramatic long-range attack in woeful weather conditions.

3

LUSON

Tuesday | 47km & 1,650m
This wonderful loop circles around the stunning Plose massif, starting out with a quick little descent before beginning the day’s one big climb. Lasting just over 18km in total, with a small break after 10km, it ascends in the direction of the stunning Sass de Putia peak before turning north and descending to Luson.
4

PASSO STELVIO

Wednesday | 63.4km & 2,228m
This is our Queen Stage. We’ll have a warm up before beginning our ascent of the infamous Passo dello Stelvio. On our first ascent from the west we actually don’t quite reach the summit, but take a left turn to Switzerland and the descent of Passo dell’Umbrail. Then it’s up again for the full ascent of the Stelvio from the east, 24km long and climbing 1,800m to the summit, the highest paved road in Italy.
5

LAGO DI CANCANO

Thursday | 47km & 1,315m
Setting out from Bormio, this figure-of-eight loop will treat you to one of the region’s hidden gems: The climb to the Torri di Fraele. The route begins by rolling through several picturesque little towns, giving you plenty of time to warm up for the main event, an 8.4km climb up tight switchbacks at an average gradient of 7.1%, before a gravel finish that arrives at the stunning Lago di Cancano. After that, we’ll descend and head south along the Adda river before returning back to base.
6

STELVIO FROM BORMIO

Friday | 46km & 1,605m
On our last ride day, we leave Bormio and ride west to Molina. 7km fairly flat and gentle. It is not until we pass through Bromio again that the real climbing starts. 20kms to the top of Passo Stelvio and then all the way down again to our hotel in Bagni Vecchi.
7

DEPARTURE

Saturday
This is our final morning together and after a leisurely breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye, or at least arrivederci, until we meet again. Transfers to the airport will be arranged by our hard-working crew but if you’re planning on staying a few extra days, let us know if we can help with reservations or a few recommendations.
