Day 1 with inGamba kicks off in classic Basque style: a shakeout ride from Mundaca that's equal parts warm-up and revelation. The route is short and approachable, with just enough climbing to wake up your legs before the week ahead. Expect winding coastal roads, lush green hills, and the kind of scenery that makes you wonder if you've accidentally pedaled into a postcard. It's the perfect introduction to the region, and a gentle reminder that in the Basque Country, even the easy days come with a side of adventure.
You'll roll out from Mundaca, a charming fishing village perched on the Bay of Biscay, famous for its surf breaks and laid-back Basque vibe. The route serves up a mix of twisting coastal roads and lush countryside, with enough elevation to keep things interesting and enough scenery to make you wish the ride was longer. Mundaca's salty air and colorful streets are waiting to welcome you back at the end of the day.
Today's ride weaves through the Basque countryside, where every switchback and crest offers a new view worth a pause. You'll pass through Lastauri, a quintessential Basque village that feels frozen in time, all stone houses, quiet plazas, and the scent of woodsmoke drifting through the air. It's the kind of day that makes you grateful for every gear on your bike, and every pastry waiting at the village café.
Get ready for a big day in the saddle: this ride takes you from Mundaca all the way to Irinate, the longest stage of the trip. You'll trace the Basque coastline and roll through a patchwork of hills and valleys, with plenty of punchy climbs to keep things lively. The destination is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of the Basque countryside, known for its rustic charm and timeless tranquility. Pace yourself, soak up the views, and enjoy the ride. This is Basque Country at its boldest.
This route circles back to Ordizia, a town famous for its lively weekly food market and deep culinary roots. Ordizia isn't just a pit stop, it's a celebration of Basque flavors, where local cheeses and fresh produce steal the show. Expect rolling hills, lush scenery, and the kind of small-town hospitality that makes you want to linger a little longer before hopping back in the saddle.
The final day packs in a perfect mix of rolling terrain and sharp climbs, winding through lush countryside and charming villages around Aia. Expect quiet roads, stunning hilltop views, and plenty of opportunities to test your legs on the region's signature ramps. This is Basque cycling at its best: challenging, beautiful, and always a little bit epic.
This is our final morning together and after a leisurely breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye, or at least arrivederci, until we meet again. Transfers to the airport will be arranged by our hard-working crew but if you’re planning on staying a few extra days, let us know if we can help with reservations or a few recommendations.
Manuel Cardoso is no longer sitting on the front of the pack, pulling everyone along at what some would describe as a “brisk” pace and what others are unable to describe at all, because they’re too busy gasping for breath and holding onto the wheel in front of them for dear life. Manuel is now sitting just slightly off the back of the pack. As I look back, I realize he has that look on his face. The look that struck fear in the hearts of the Pro Peloton for many years. Part grin, part mischievous child, and all business. He is about to start some shenanigans.
Sure enough, just a few kilometers later, Manuel has picked one lucky contestant out of the pack and they are sitting in, waiting like predators for the perfect moment. For Manuel, just like when he raced pro, this is when the road turns slightly up. A spot where it gets tough for everyone. And he accelerates with his breakaway “partner” in tow. He ramps it up to a speed with which no one can latch on, and with such precision you have to question whether you actually want to try and close the gap he has created. And you can’t see it, but you just know he is grinning from ear to ear.

Your week is split between two very different sides of Basque hospitality: a coastal palace and a countryside retreat.
Hotel Luruna Palacio Larrinaga anchors your first four nights in Mundaca, a rehabilitated 19th century mansion once owned by a prominent shipping family, now a sleek four-star boutique hotel a minute’s walk from the harbor. Modern, loft-like rooms sit behind a restored historic facade, with a well-regarded on-site restaurant to match.
The back half of the week moves to Iriarte Jauregia, a 17th century palace hotel tucked into the rural hills of Gipuzkoa, fully restored and surrounded by farmhouses, forest, and mountains.
