ABOUT THIS TRIP

This trip takes you into the beating heart of the Dolomites, where we’ll take on some of the most revered climbs in the world, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of a mountain range that has forged legends and shaped our sport.

And because you’re with inGamba, you’ll experience all of this with the kind of equipment and support that normally only professionals can enjoy, while enjoying some luxurious lodgings at two unique hotels: The Hotel Santer in Bressanone, and Hotel La Perla in Corvara. Both of these destinations epitomize the comfort, warmth, and style that has made this part of Italy so famous, while also offering unrivaled access to Italy’s great mountains.

You can look forward to roads steeped in history and some of the sport’s most legendary climbs, from the Passo Pordoi, where Fausto Coppi and Gino Bartali fought one of their most famous battles, to the Passo delle Erbe, where a young Marco Pantani first grabbed global attention with a stunning solo victory during the 1994 Giro d’Italia.

Paulo began mountain biking at the early age of 16, and soon his love for bicycles, road cycling, and mechanics were there. Almost a decade later, he decided to take the risk and become a bicycle mechanic, but he never stopped participating in granfondos and amateur races. He joined inGamba as a mechanic in 2019 and now he is also one of our guides.

DAY BY DAY BREAKDOWN

1

Day 1: Bressanone Loop

Bëgnodüs to Alta Badia! There is no such thing as a flat road in this special part of the world, but our first day is a relatively easy one, with a big descent, a flat ride and a friendly climb so we test those legs – and to make sure that your bike is working perfectly. If it isn’t quite right, or you’d like to fine-tune something, now is the time to speak to your mechanic.

2

Day 2: San Pietro Luson

Monday | 66km & 2,058m

Things get serious with a solid 66-kilometer loop that includes just over 2,000 meters of climbing—more altitude gain than mythic climbs like the Mont Ventoux or l’Alpe d’Huez. The Monte di Funes may not be world-renowned, but it embodies the beauty of the Dolomites, and will be the stage for our first real day of riding.

But while there will be plenty of climbing on tap, much of it is comparatively gradual and will allow us to adapt to the mountain terrain found here in this corner of The Dolomites.

3

Day 3: Luson Loop

Tuesday | 48km & 1,645m

Today’s loop, while slightly shorter, will ride by the Sass de Putia climb, a spectacular peak, with dramatic rock formations so typical of this region. But while the loop may be shorter, consider it nothing less than the calm before the storm before the legendary Passo Stelvio the following day.

4

Day 4: Passo dello Stelvio

Wednesday | 63km & 2,181m

What would cycling history be without the Passo dello Stelvio? How many pages have been written about the exploits on this iconic mountain pass that sits at more than 2,700 meters high?

The truth is that every rider writes their own history on this monumental mountain pass, and each day here promises to be one you will never forget.

Leaving from Coldrano, today’s 63-kilometer ride passes through Prato, as we tackle the most famous side of the climb, with its 48 dizzying switchbacks.

Once at the top, the inGamba support crew will be waiting, and you can enjoy coffee, drinks and snacks, before descending to our hotel on the Bormio side.

5

Day 5: Lago di Cancano

Thursday | 45km & 1,233m

On paper, day five can appear as a sort of transition day between our two Stelvio ascensions, but our ride up to Lago di Cancano may just be our most beautiful ride of the entire week.

The climb to Lago di Cancano is barely 10 kilometers in length, but it may well be the climb with the most amount of switchbacks per meter of altitude gain. Needless to say, the views are stunning as we climb above the valley below, but really, the climb is just a sort of hors d’oeuvres for what awaits us at the summit. Just after exiting a narrow mountain tunnel that is our gateway to the summit, the road turns and opens out along the first of two mountain lakes, one more beautiful than the next.

Once at the top, we have a choice of enjoying an extended coffee stop or continuing along the gravel road around Lago di Cancano, and that may just be the most difficult decision you have to make during your entire week with inGamba.

6

Day 6: Stelvio Bonus

Friday | 35km & 1,318m

Because no self-respecting cyclist can ever really get enough of a classic climb like the Stelvio, we have chosen to return on our final day, but this time from Bormio. Our hotel is actually situated just a few kilometers up on the climb, just outside of Bormio. As a result, there is no warmup on this day, as the road only goes in one direction: Up.

Once at the top, the inGamba support crew will be waiting in typical fashion, and you can enjoy coffee, drinks and snacks, as well as the view, before returning to Bormio and a most-memorable final dinner.

DEPARTURE

Saturday
This is our final morning together and after a leisurely breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye, or at least arrivederci, until we meet again. Transfers to the airport will be arranged by our hard-working crew but if you’re planning on staying a few extra days, let us know if we can help with reservations or a few recommendations.
