Sérgio Paulinho

The World Tour veteran

After an impressive pro career that started back in 2003, Sérgio Paulinho joined the inGamba team at the start of 2022 after his retirement. But we’ve known him for a long time, as not only did he race against our founder João Correia, but he was also a teammate of our star guide Manuel Cardoso back in the day. A two-time national champion in Portugal, Sérgio has also won stages at the Tour de France and Vuelta a España, and in 2004, he won a silver medal in the road race at the Athens Olympics. So it’s fair to say the man has pedigree! It isn’t the racing victories that impress us most about Sérgio though, it’s his personality, his friendly nature on and off the bike, and the fact that he’s always ready with a smile. That said, if you find yourself running out of gas on a big climb, it certainly helps to have someone like him beside you!

Moncalvo

36km & 331m

Our journey begins among Istria’s softly rolling inland hills. Today’s gentle loop around Moncalvo introduces you to the region’s quiet farm roads, stone villages, and patchwork vineyards that glow in the afternoon light. The terrain is relaxed and welcoming, allowing you to find your rhythm while taking in sweeping countryside views framed by olive groves and cypress trees. We return with time to settle in, enjoy a leisurely aperitivo, and savor your first taste of Istrian cuisine.

Peroj Loop

84km & 757m

Today we ride west toward the Adriatic, following a scenic loop that blends coastal breezes with tranquil inland climbs. Leaving the countryside behind, the route opens onto long, flowing roads lined with pine forests and glimpses of turquoise sea. As we approach Peroj, the salt air and seaside atmosphere signal a change in scenery, before the return journey guides us back through vineyard-draped hills and quiet rural lanes.

Rovinj-San Canzian

75km & 1,195m

Today’s stage carries us from the Adriatic coast into Istria’s green interior. Departing Rovinj, with its pastel facades and fishing boats, we gradually climb away from the sea into rolling forested hills. The landscape becomes increasingly pastoral as we weave through remote hamlets and fertile valleys, building steadily toward San Canzian. The sense of transition—from coastal romance to countryside calm—makes this one of the most beautifully varied days of the week.

Levade Loop(truffel)

76km & 1,135m

This ride explores the heart of Istria’s famed truffle region. Starting from Levade, we follow quiet roads through oak forests and terraced farmland, where truffle hunters have worked the soil for generations. The climbs are steady and rewarding, revealing sweeping valley views and medieval hill towns perched above winding rivers. It is a day rich in flavor, history, and timeless rural beauty—perfectly paired with an afternoon devoted to Istria’s celebrated gastronomy.

San Cazian to Opatija

79km & 1,488m

Today we journey toward the sea once more, tracing a dramatic route that bridges inland hills with the Adriatic coastline. The road climbs and falls through forested ridges before gradually unveiling views of the Kvarner Gulf. As we descend toward Opatija, elegant villas and palm-lined promenades signal our arrival in one of Croatia’s most refined seaside resorts. The contrast between rugged countryside and coastal grandeur makes this a truly memorable day in the saddle.

Nova Vas Loop

98km & 2051m

Our final ride is also our most demanding—and our most rewarding. The Nova Vas loop takes us deep into Istria’s highlands, following long, sustained climbs through dense forests and open ridgelines. The elevation gain delivers expansive views across rolling hills and distant glimpses of the Adriatic. It is a fitting finale: a ride that tests the legs, clears the mind, and leaves you with a lasting sense of accomplishment amid Istria’s untamed beauty.

DEPARTURE

This is our final morning together and after a leisurely breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye, or at least arrivederci, until we meet again. Transfers to the airport will be arranged by our hard-working crew but if you’re planning on staying a few extra days, let us know if we can help with reservations or a few recommendations.
