MEET THE GUIDES

Sancho

Sancho da Cruz

The late bloomer

Sancho had a late start to cycling, but he has been very passionate about bikes ever since. His love for the sport even made him change career paths to race professionally — until, oh, the pandemic. Covid saw him go back to school; he became one of our guides after interviewing João for his masters final thesis on Active Tourism. Today, he is more than happy to share his passion for the sport with you, helping you on and off the bike, whether your goal is to go full gas or simply take it easy and make the most of the scenery.

Rui Vinhas

Rui Vinhas

Born in the North of Portugal, Rui has been riding his bike since he was 10. In 2011, he became a professional cyclist and just five years later he won the Tour of Portugal. The following year, in 2017, he was the runner-up in the Portuguese Cycling Championship. His talent and incredible bike skills will be by your side during our trips.

DAY BY DAY BREAKDOWN

1

Day 1 – Mojan Loop

(34 km / 603 m)
Our journey begins with a gentle but revealing introduction to the Istrian interior. Rolling out on quiet country lanes, we ride through a patchwork of vineyards, olive groves, and stone farmhouses that define the rural character of this region. The climb toward Mojan unfolds gradually, allowing time to settle into rhythm while taking in expansive views across terraced hillsides and wooded valleys. As we loop back toward our base, the landscape opens to reveal distant coastal glimpses—an early promise of the Adriatic adventures to come.
2

Day 2 – Levade Truffle Loop

(76 km / 1,135 m)

Today we head deep into the famed Mirna River Valley, an area celebrated for its dense forests and world-renowned truffles. The route weaves through a series of peaceful villages where stone bridges and medieval bell towers hint at centuries of quiet prosperity. A sustained climb brings us above the valley floor, rewarding us with sweeping views over vineyards and river bends below. Our return rolls through Levade, the epicenter of Istrian truffle culture, before winding gently back along fragrant forest roads lined with oak and chestnut trees.

3

Day 3 – Buje Loop

(62 km / 977 m)

This morning’s ride takes us into the hilltop heart of Istria. The climb toward Buje gradually lifts us through olive groves and orchards before revealing one of the region’s most charming medieval towns. Encircled by ancient stone walls, Buje sits proudly above the surrounding countryside, offering panoramic views that stretch all the way to the sea on clear days. The descent flows through a mosaic of farmland and sleepy hamlets, where narrow lanes and vineyard-lined roads lead us quietly back to our base.

4

Day 4 – San Cazian to Opatija

(79 km / 1,488 m)

Today’s route carries us from the countryside to the coast, tracing an evolving landscape that shifts from wooded hills to dramatic seaside cliffs. We climb through forested passes and descend into valleys dotted with small villages before reaching the glittering Adriatic shoreline. The final approach to Opatija unfolds along elegant coastal roads, where Belle Époque villas and palm-lined promenades recall the town’s historic role as a 19th-century resort for European nobility. The combination of climbing, scenery, and seaside grandeur makes today one of the most visually striking rides of the week.

5

Day 5 – Beach Coffee Ride

(47 km / 746 m)

A more relaxed but no less beautiful day invites us to explore the coast at an unhurried pace. We follow gentle rolling roads that hug the shoreline, passing secluded coves, pebble beaches, and crystalline turquoise waters. Short climbs reveal elevated viewpoints over the Adriatic before sweeping descents return us to the sea. The ride is punctuated by stops at seaside cafés, where espresso and pastries are enjoyed with our feet nearly in the water—a perfect moment to absorb the easy rhythm of coastal life.

6

Day 6 – Nova Vas Loop

(98 km / 2,051 m)

Our final ride is a true Istrian classic, combining sustained climbs, technical descents, and unforgettable views. We venture inland once more, rising through shaded forest roads toward Nova Vas and the surrounding hill villages. Each ascent opens new panoramas of rolling vineyards and distant islands shimmering offshore. The route rewards patient climbing with long, flowing descents that thread through quiet rural lanes, closing our journey with a sense of accomplishment and a lasting impression of Istria’s diverse and captivating terrain.

7

DEPARTURE

This is our final morning together and after a leisurely breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye, or at least arrivederci, until we meet again. Transfers to the airport will be arranged by our hard-working crew but if you’re planning on staying a few extra days, let us know if we can help with reservations or a few recommendations.
