About This Trip

Dust, Hills, Chianti

Tuscany invented gravel riding. Long before the Strade Bianche became a race, before gravel bikes filled every shop window, local cyclists were threading their way along the region’s famous white roads — chalky dirt tracks that connect medieval hilltop villages, wind through ancient olive groves, and disappear into tunnels of cypress trees. This is where the genre was born, and this is where inGamba brings you to experience it properly.

The White Roads Gravel Adventure is built around Tuscany’s defining terrain: the strade bianche themselves. Expect loose, dusty switchbacks that demand real bike handling, punchy climbs on rough surfaces where traction is earned rather than assumed, and that unmistakable crunch underfoot as you roll into a village that looks unchanged since the 13th century. The week culminates on Day 6 with Monte Sante Marie — a genuine Strade Bianche race sector, with steep pitches pushing into double-digit gradients and kilometers of white road that will test every rider.

But this isn’t a sufferfest. It’s inGamba. Between the efforts, you’ll eat extraordinary food, sleep at Borgolecchi — our own 15th-century property in the heart of Chianti — and be looked after by a team that treats you like a rider in a professional program. Mechanics prep your Pinarello Grevil F each morning. Soigneurs work on your legs each evening. The wine is always good.

If you’ve done road rides in Tuscany before, this trip will show you a different side of it entirely: rawer, more physical, and more intimate. The white roads strip everything back to what matters — the terrain, the riding, and the landscape that makes this region the spiritual home of cycling.

Travelling with a Non-Rider?

Borgolecchi is a destination in itself. Non-riding companions can enjoy a full programme of cultural experiences, relaxation, and Tuscan exploration while you’re on the bike.

Your Week In Tuscany

Benvenuti in Italia! This shake-out ride is the perfect introduction to riding in Tuscany, rolling along ridge tops, through small villages and past the ancient olive groves that blanket these fertile hillsides. This ride has a long, solid climb in the middle – which should shake out any cobwebs built up during your flight. This is also the ideal time to adjust anything on the bike that isn’t quite right, so if you need to make any changes, let your mechanic know right away.

Lunch Dinner

This route leads to two beautiful towns in the Chianti region, Vertine and Volpaia. Vertine, a castle or walled town, is located in the northeastern part of the Chianti area, surrounded by the Chianti Mountains. This area has many castles due to its historical significance as part of the medieval ‘Chianti League’ and the border between Florentine and Sienese territories. Volpaia is a small fortified village also known as Castello di Volpaia in Italian. It is known for being the hometown of the della Volpaia family, who were renowned clock and instrument makers.

Breakfast Lunch Dinner

This morning we will climb toward the town of Radda before turning to Castellina. The earliest definition – in 1716 – of the wine area of Chianti, Lega del Chianti, is the region we explore on today’s ride. This will be a day of truly incredible views from the bike, with plenty of quintessentially Tuscan views.

Breakfast Lunch Dinner

Today, we will ride through the Tuscan rolling hills. Our destination is the castle of Monteluco di Lecchi, a medieval fortress dating back to 1176, offering a panoramic view of the Massellone Valley. Since this climb is in the second half of our day, make sure to conserve energy. It’s a 7km climb with an average gradient of 7.5%.

Breakfast Lunch Dinner

This is a relaxed route, inspired by the traditional coffee shop ride taken by inGamba’s founder, João Correia, when he was a pro racer, living and training in Tuscany. Expect gentle rolling hills and plenty of time for on-the-bike conversation as we make our way up to the castle of the stunning Castello di Brolio.

Breakfast Lunch Dinner

Get ready to put your bike-handling skills and climbing legs to the test as we conquer the exhilarating sections of the renowned Strade Bianche race. This route will challenge you with steep pitches, some reaching double-digit gradients and extending for several kilometers. But fear not, our journey will also take us through stunning towns and breathtaking scenery, providing plenty of opportunities to appreciate the beauty along the way.

This is our final morning together and after a leisurely breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye, or at least arrivederci, until we meet again. Giorgio Valvassori

The Storyteller

You may hear sweet clarinet notes wafting toward your window at Borgolecchi, as our resident aristocrat practises his newfound love. We’re never quite sure if all of his stories are based in reality, but they are without doubt highly entertaining.

Giorgio is a supportive presence, encouraging you during challenging climbs and joining you in races if you’re up for it. His philosophy revolves around embracing life to the fullest and seizing every moment.

@giorgiovalvassori

"We're specifically trying to give our guests the closest experience of what it means to be in a pro team, at any speed."

The Pro Experience

A literal WorldTour service.

With years of experience in the professional peloton, our mechanics and soigneurs bring WorldTour-level care to every detail of your ride. Up to five mechanics work meticulously each day to ensure your Pinarello is perfectly tuned and adjusted for you alone—not just race-ready, but dialed to your precise preferences. Meanwhile, our soigneurs draw on their own experience as professional riders to anticipate your needs before you voice them: bottles filled and positioned exactly right, ride food prepared and timed to fuel you through the hardest climbs, post-ride massages that ease tired muscles, and the kind of quiet, confident support that prepares you mentally and physically for whatever the road brings next. This is the care that once belonged only to the pros. With inGamba, it’s yours.

FAQs

Am I fast enough?

Don't worry, this is our most asked question...

Guests of inGamba are passionate cyclists who love the sport and the lifestyle that surrounds it. Most of our community are experienced riders of all ages and various abilities, who appreciate great roads, fine food, and unforgettable company.

While everyone enjoys a challenge, no one’s chasing a pro contract here. Instead, the focus is on sharing incredible rides at a comfortable pace, soaking in the scenery, and enjoying the journey. You’ll find more “middle of the pack” and “social” riders than hard chargers at the front, and with our exceptional staff-to-guest ratio, every rider is fully supported, no matter their speed or style.
