We’re going to celebrate the 2022 Giro d’Italia in style, and we officially invite you to join the fun! Eros Poli will be your guide to the Corsa Rosa, arguably the season’s most difficult, and most beautiful, grand tour.

With a palmarès that includes an Olympic gold medal and a legendary stage of the ’94 Tour de France, Eros is the perfect guide for this race, and he will not only share his vast knowledge of the pro peloton, but also show you some of the most amazing rides that Italy has to offer.

While the race route has yet to be announced, it promised to be one of the highlights of the season, with a host of summit finishes and beautiful little towns to enjoy. We’ll also add a couple of our own favorite routes for a truly unique experience. On this trip you’ll get to sample the best of it while also getting closer to the action than anyone else thanks to our friends in high places. There’ll also be plenty of Mangia, Beve and Bici along the way as you test yourself on some of Italy’s great climbs before heading to beautiful Verona for the exciting finale of the 104th Corsa Rosa!

Day by Day Breakdown

Molinetto della Croda

We’ll begin our Giro d’Italia adventure with a gentle spin through the rolling countryside of Veneto’s Prosecco region to blow off the cobwebs and get you settled on your new bike. There are three short climbs along the route, but nothing to worry about with gradients rarely going over 4%. Oh, and expect plenty of stunning views along the way!

Passo Nevegal – Passo San Boldo

The Passo San Boldo is one of the most visually striking mountain passes in northern Italy, connecting the town of Trichiana and Tovena with a stunning series of five tunnels, hairpin turns, and bridges. The impressive feat of engineering was achieved by the Austro-Hungarian army during WWI in just 100 days, mainly thanks to the forced efforts of prisoners and the local population.

Muro di Cá del Poggio

This stage of the Giro will be the sprinters’ last opportunity, but we’ll be concentrating our efforts on the hillier parts of the route, in particular the Muro di Cá del Poggio. This is prime prosecco country so the views will be spectacular all day, and we’ll be home in plenty of time to enjoy the professional action. Afterward, there will also be a special event in Treviso with our friends at Pinarello, as we toast what would have been Giovanni Pinarello’s 100th birthday.

Passo San Pellegrino – Canazei

The Passo San Pellegrino is a regular feature of the Giro d’Italia, appearing this year for the 12th time since it’s debut in 1963. Outside of Italy, it’s not as well known as some of its neighbors, but it is a stunning climb, especially when tackled from the Falcade side. On our route, the climbing technically begins after the opening couple of kilometers, but the gradient is very gentle until we reach the proper base of the climb, around 11km from the Passo San Pellegrino’s summit. From there, there’s a long and enjoyable descent to Moena, before we turn north for the home stretch to Canazei.

Passo Pordoi – Passo Fedaia

This route tackles not one, but two legendary Dolomite climbs: The Pordoi and the Fedaia. After a gentle few kilometers to warm up the legs the climbing begins early, as we ascend out of Canazei up to the Passo Pordoi. It’s just over 15km to the top, so you’ll need to pace the effort, but your work will be rewarded with a beautifully winding road and some spectacular scenery. Better still, the descent that follows is fast and fun – and 27km long. The Passo Fedaia begins at kilometer 43, and while it’s shorter than the Pordoi it averages a steeper gradient and gains more altitude. Once at the top though, you’re again rewarded with a gorgeous ride along the banks of the mountain pass’ eponymous lake.

Lake Garda – Arena di Verona

We will finish our Giro trip in real style, with a victory processon from the stunning Lake Garda, all the way to the centre of Eros’ hometown, the iconic Arena di Verona, a 2000-year-old Roman amphitheatre in Piazza Bra. The Giro d’Italia will also conclude at the Arena and we’ll make sure we’re there in plenty of time to enjoy all of the action of what promises to be an exciting time trial finish to the world’s most beautiful bike race.

DEPARTURE

This is our final morning together and after a leisurely breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye, or at least arrivederci, until we meet again. Transfers to the airport will be arranged by our hard-working crew but if you’re planning on staying a few extra days, let us know if we can help with reservations or a few recommendations.

The Champion

The night before Eros Poli took victory atop Mont Ventoux he couldn’t sleep. It was not like he was dreaming of victory or even had the slightest idea the next day's stage would change his life forever. It was just that it was hot. Unbearably, unsleepably hot in his less-than stellar French hotel. His roommate had taken his mattress off the bed and was sleeping on the small balcony outside their room. And the man who would shortly become known as Monsieur Ventoux was watching football, Italy vs. Brazil in the World Cup final, to be exact. Italy lost. The following morning as Eros dragged his weary, tired legs out of bed and down the stairs, as there was no lift, James Brown came into his head. “I feel good, I knew that I would now,” started to repeat over and over in his head. As it would the rest of the day. He felt good and the rest, as they say, is history.
