The roads are succulent and bountiful, and the food and wine leave you breathless. The Pinarello bikes are to the highest standard of the purest gourmand. The personalities are rich and bold, yet full of subtle surprises. All is to be savored—and devoured.

Lead Guide:

Eros Poli

We’re going to celebrate the 2023 Giro d’Italia in style, and we officially invite you to join the fun! Eros Poli will be your guide to the Corsa Rosa, arguably the season’s most difficult, and most beautiful, grand tour.

With a palmarès that includes an Olympic gold medal and a legendary stage of the ’94 Tour de France, Eros is the perfect guide for this race, and he will not only share his vast knowledge of the pro peloton, but also show you some of the most amazing rides that Italy has to offer.

On this trip you’ll get to sample the best of it while also getting closer to the action than anyone else thanks to our friends in high places. There’ll also be plenty of Mangia, Beve and Bici along the way as you test yourself on some of Italy’s great climbs before heading to see the final dramatic stage.

MEET THE GUIDES

EROS POLI

THE CHAMPION

The night before Eros Poli took victory atop Mont Ventoux he couldn’t sleep. It was not like he was dreaming of victory or even had the slightest idea the next day’s stage would change his life forever. It was just that it was hot. Unbearably, unsleepably hot in his less-than stellar French hotel. His roommate had taken his mattress off the bed and was sleeping on the small balcony outside their room. And the man who would shortly become known as Monsieur Ventoux was watching football, Italy vs. Brazil in the World Cup final, to be exact. Italy lost. The following morning as Eros dragged his weary, tired legs out of bed and down the stairs, as there was no lift, James Brown came into his head. “I feel good, I knew that I would now,” started to repeat over and over in his head. As it would the rest of the day. He felt good and the rest, as they say, is history.

Paulo Crispim

Paulo began mountain biking at the early age of 16, and soon his love for bicycles, road cycling, and mechanics were there. Almost a decade later, he decided to take the risk and become a bicycle mechanic, but he never stopped participating in granfondos and amateur races. He joined inGamba as a mechanic in 2019 and now he is also one of our guides.

DAY BY DAY BREAKDOWN

1

MALCESINE

Monday | 32.5km & 328m

We’ll begin our Giro d’Italia adventure with a gentle spin through the rolling countryside of Verona’s region to blow off the cobwebs and get you settled on your new bike. Oh, and expect plenty of stunning views along the way!

2

SANTA BARBARA & PASSO BORDALA (GIRO STAGE 16)

Tuesday | 67.2km & 2,340m

This stage of the Giro will have two major climbs in the first half and we’ll have the chance to ride them.
The Passo di Santa Barbara kicks in hard with a series of hairpins and ramps up to 11.7%. The climb totals 12.3 kilometres and the average gradient sits at 8.4%. Effectually, the Passo Bordala is an extension of the Passo di Santa Barbara, only shorter – 3.7 kilometres at 7.1%.

3

CENCENIGHE – DOBBIACO

Wednesday | 78.5km & 1,891m

Passo Falzarego is one of the more famous passes in the Dolomites and has been included in the Giro d’Italia 5 times from 1976 to 2008. This is a long climb by Dolomites standards at nearly 20 km at 5.4% average grade. This point to point ride will take us to our new hotel in Dobbiaco.
4

DOBBIACO — RIFUGIO PALAFAVERA

Thursday | 86.2km & 2,010m

Today we will be winding through the limestone spires of the Italian Dolomites, until we reach the picturesque ski resort town of Cortina D’Ampezzo. Then there’s the Passo Cibiana. The 9.6 kilometres climb at 7.8% is crested with 23 kilometres remaining. The first half of it goes downhill, the second half is the finish climb. The first 5 kilometres climb at 9.8% to Coi before a sharp descent makes way for a short and explosive climb to Rifugio Palafavera.
5

LE TRE CIME DI LAVAREDO (GIRO STAGE 19)

Friday | 53.1km & 1,520m
While the opening day in the Dolomites is hardly a piece of cake, it’s this second test – arguably the queen stage of the race – where the Giro could be won or lost. Three peaks over 2,000m (the Passo Valparola, Passo Giau and the final ascent) as well as the Passo Campolongo and Passo Tre Croci will separate the wheat from the chaff as the Giro returns for a seventh finish on the iconic Tre Cime di Lavaredo, where Vincenzo Nibali tamed the maximum 18% gradients to win in heavy snow in 2013. We will have the chance to ride the last climb to the finish line, Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
6

IL PASSO TRE CROCI

Friday | 63km & 1,193m
We will finish our Giro trip in real style, with a climb to Il Passo Tre Croci, one of the five giant peaks included in possibly the hardest route of the entire Giro and that is Stage 19. With the sun shining, it promises to be spectacular to watch – not that the riders will have much time to take in the views. Everything can change fast on a day like this – especially the weather. Those targeting pink will be on red alert from the outset.
7

DEPARTURE

Sunday
This is our final morning together and after a leisurely breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye, or at least arrivederci, until we meet again. Transfers to the airport will be arranged by our hard-working crew but if you’re planning on staying a few extra days, let us know if we can help with reservations or a few recommendations.
