Sonoma Wine Country

Starting from $1,495

Napa might be the better known wine county, but when it comes to cycling, neighboring Sonoma is the favorite amongst those in the know. Characterized by an undulating landscape of lush greens and rusty reds, where vineyards climb from the valley up into the mountains, the roads around here are quiet and the terrain offers everything you could want for a bike trip, from the Pacific Ocean to the Russian River and some breathtaking redwood forests. And because this is our home turf, you can rest assured that our route packages are the best available. We’ve combined our local knowledge with the help of pro riders like Ted King to compile a selection of all killer, no filler courses to suit riders of every level.

Our little hideaway at the Harmon Guest House, in the charming village of Healdsburg, makes the ultimate base for a visiting cyclist. It’s a perfect blend between cozy and chic, offering comfortable and stylish rooms as well as a private park, a pool and a roof terrace with panoramic views, all in the heart of the historic town. And with a wide array of trendy restaurants, boutiques and small, family-run wineries right at your doorstep, you couldn’t ask for a better location for some Après Bike activities.

"Sonoma County is like that old line about the weather—if you don't like what you see, wait five minutes and it will change. The region is so diverse that when you're there, you always seem to find another Sonoma County around the next bend in the road." – Wine Spectator

  • Sonoma has been named the best US wine destination by TripAdvisor

  • Sonoma County grows around 66 varieties of winegrapes

  • 1,800 grape growers farm more than 60,000 acres of grapes in Sonoma

  • 1 acre of grapes = 3,958 bottles of wine

  • Sonoma is birthplace of California's modern wine industry and has the state's oldest commercial winery and the oldest, continuously operating family winery

  • Thanks to a varied climate, the region produces a wide range of wines, from crispy Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to sun-loving Syrah and Zinfandel

  • The Sonoma Coast State Beach is 30 miles of rugged coastline and untouched beaches

  • The county is home to oak covered hills and mountains, more than 50 miles of Pacific coastline, and sun-kissed valleys so the climate varies, but it's almost always ideal for cycling

  • Warm to hot summers and mild winters

  • Sonoma is famous for spectacular roads, sweeping vistas and some of the best riding in the world

  • The climbs are not as long as you find in Europe, but there is plenty of vertical to be explored

"It's easy for me to stay in good shape in California because there's a lot of great riding. It's a different style of training to a lot of pro riders, but it works for me because it's fun and it keeps me excited about cycling."
